Greece expands COVID-19 restrictions to contain surge in new cases

Greece on Monday announced further restrictions to contain the Omicron variant amid a surge in COVID-19 cases in the country. Health Minister Thanos Plevris said under new measures, masks will be compulsory at supermarkets, public transport and eating establishments, with bars and restaurants to close at midnight. COVID-19 cases on Monday surged to a record of 9,284, with 66 deaths.
