Higher GST thresholds for textiles, footwear being mulled to boost consumption: Report

The Group of Ministers (GoM) on GST rate rationalisation is considering raising the price ceiling for the lower tax slab on textiles and footwear to enhance affordability and drive consumption, a report said. Textiles priced up to ₹1,200-₹1,500 will remain within the 5% slab, as per the reported proposal. Meanwhile, footwear within the same price range will attract 12% GST.
