The Patel community on Tuesday held protests in Gujarat, demanding Other Backward Class (OBC) status for their community. The police resorted to lathicharge when protesters forcibly closed shops in parts of the state. Two incidents of stone pelting were also reported in Ahmedabad. The Patel community is demanding reservation in college admissions and government jobs.
