Gum disease bacteria linked to breast cancer growth: Study

Scientists revealed that a common gum disease bacterium is linked to the growth of breast cancer. Fusobacterium nucleatum, an oral microbe previously linked to colorectal and other cancers, can enter the bloodstream, colonise in breast tissue and initiate breast cancer, accelerate tumour growth, and promote its spread by damaging DNA. "Nothing happens in isolation," the lead researcher said.
