High-level committee on banking to focus on blueprint for creating mega-banks: FM

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the high-level committee on banking for 'Viksit Bharat', announced during Budget 2026, will focus on drawing up a blueprint for creating mega-banks. "It's for India's banking sector to be made big enough...to take care of Viksit Bharat funding," she said. Asked about the committee formation timeline, Sitharaman said it'll be done at the earliest.
