Higher fixed charges in electricity bills proposed by CEA

The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has proposed phased hike in fixed monthly electricity charges to help discoms recover grid and infrastructure costs. Fixed charges for domestic and farm consumers may rise to 25% of fixed costs by 2030, while industrial, commercial and institutional users could pay up to 100%. The move comes amid rising rooftop solar and captive power use.
