Highest recorded death toll due to lightning is 91

The highest death toll caused by a lightning strike is of 91 people, as recognised by the Guinness World Records. The lightning struck the Peruvian airline, LANSA Flight 508, which crashed into the Amazon rainforest in Peru on December 24, 1971. Of all the people on board, only one person, Juliane Koepcke, survived.
