Road ministry is planning to exempt buses and private vehicles from paying highway toll. The move will cost the govt Rs.27k crore over a five-year period from 2014-2019. To recover the loss, the ministry has called to increase Rs.1 in the tax on petrol and diesel and a one-time fee (2% of the cost) on purchase of new personal vehicle.
