Himachal govt to levy 'Orphan & Widow' cess on petrol, high-speed diesel

Himachal Pradesh Assembly passed a bill to allow for levy of an “Orphan and Widow" cess of up to ₹5/litre on petrol and high-speed diesel. The cess has been levied to ensure stable source of revenue to implement welfare measures for orphans and widows, CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said. Opposition BJP walked out of the assembly over the issue.
