Hitler proclaimed himself Führer of Germany on this day

On August 2, 1934, Adolf Hitler became the Führer of Germany after the death of President Paul von Hindenburg. Hitler and the Nazis announced the law that combined the office of the President and Chancellor and members of the armed forces swore personal allegiance to him. Hitler remained the absolute dictator of Germany until his alleged suicide in 1945.
