Honduras declares national emergency over rising gang extortion cases

Honduran President Xiomara Castro has declared a national security emergency amidst rising number of extortion cases by violent criminal groups across the country. Authorities started implementing a new plan which includes suspension of some constitutional rights in areas where criminal gangs are predominantly present, deployment of 20,000 police agents and new security controls on roads.
