Hong Kong jails 45 pro-democracy activists in security case

Forty-five pro-democracy activists and ex-lawmakers were sentenced to prison for their roles in an unofficial primary election, under Hong Kong's 2020 national security law. Prosecutors claimed they aimed to destabilise the government and force the leader's resignation by winning a legislative majority. Legal scholar Benny Tai considered the mastermind, received the longest sentence of 10 years.
