Hospitals can't hold dead bodies 'hostage' over bills: Assam CM

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma-led Assam government has decided that no hospital or nursing home in the state can hold a dead body as "hostage" over unpaid bills. "This is against humanity," he said. He warned that if any facility does so, its license will be suspended for three to six months and a fine of ₹5 lakh will be imposed.
