How an ancient rift created the Chhattisgarh Basin

A new study by geologists from ISI and GSI reconstructed the 1.4-billion-year history of the Chhattisgarh Basin in Central India's Bastar craton. Rock layers from the 450 m-thick Chandarpur Group reveal that the region began as a violent continental rift before evolving into a shallow prehistoric sea during the Mesoproterozoic era.
