How can Old Tax Regime help save over ₹1 lakh on ₹20-lakh salary after April 1?

Draft Income Tax Rules, set to take effect from April 1, have changed several provisions of the Old Tax Regime and have clarified deductions, exemptions and compliance norms. A taxpayer earning ₹20 lakh annually can now save ₹1.25 lakh. This is due to changes like higher meal limits (₹50 to ₹200), gift exemptions (₹5,000 to ₹15,000) and mobile leasing benefits.
