Archaeologist Peter Mitchell’s new book says humans and dogs evolved together over thousands of years, influencing each other’s survival, behaviour and biology. In Arctic region, dogs developed distinctive skeletal features and robust limbs because they were used to pull sleds. Dogs living with tropical hunter-gatherer societies became hunting partners and remained smaller and more agile.
