How did hair removal become a norm for women?

It is believed that Ancient Egyptians removed hair to discourage spread of diseases, and Roman women used pumice stones to remove hair. Later, in 1915, a fashion magazine advertised a sleeveless dress for the first time, thus, initiating the removal of underarm hair. Women hence adopted the look, and later advertisements, around the 1920s, further promoted hair removal for legs.
