The wounded US pilot survived 36 hours in Iran after his F-15E Strike Eagle was downed, hiding in a crevice and climbing 7,000-foot ridge in Zagros Mountains. He reached higher ground and activated emergency beacon to signal that he was alive. He climbed over 1.3 miles and avoided capture from Iranian fighters motivated by $60,000 bounty reportedly placed on him.
