How have household expenses in India increased over the years?

The average Monthly Per Capita Consumption Expenditure (MPCE) in 2022-23 was ₹3,773 in rural India and ₹6,459 in urban, according to the government's Household Consumption Expenditure Survey 2022-23. In 2011-12, the expenditure was ₹1,430 in rural areas and ₹2,630 in urban areas. The data showed that Indian household spending has more than doubled in over a decade.
