How have Independent candidates performed in the history of Lok Sabha elections?

The 2019 Lok Sabha elections saw four Independent candidates getting elected, while three were elected in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. The most number of Independent candidates (42) were elected in the 1957 Lok Sabha polls. In the 1952 and 1967 Lok Sabha polls, 37 and 35 Independent candidates were elected, respectively.
