How is a semiconductor chip made from sand?

To make a semiconductor chip, highly pure quartz and sand are purified into silicon, which is then melted to produce a seed crystal. Next, the silicon is sliced into thin discs called wafers, which undergo photoresist coating. The wafers are then given electrical properties, followed by the building of transistors. Lastly, tiny wires are laid to link the transistors.
