The Prakriti Khanda of the Brahmavaivarta Purana is considered the primary scriptural source for the origin of Goddess Shashthi, popularly worshipped as Chhathi Maiya during the four-day Chhath festival. She is described as the mind-born daughter of Lord Brahma, and the wife of Kartikeya, and is traditionally known as Devasena. Chhath will be celebrated from November 13 to 16.
