How is Diwali celebrated differently in North and South India?

In North India, Diwali is celebrated to mark Lord Rama's return to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile in the forest. People light diyas, worship Goddess Lakshmi along with Lord Ganesha, and buy gold on Dhanteras. In South India, the festival marks Lord Krishna's victory over Narakasura. Celebrations include oil baths, house cleaning and preparing sweets.
