How long can homebuyers ask builders to fix defects?

If defects appear after possession of a new home, the builder may still be responsible for fixing them. Under India's real estate law, builders must repair structural defects and certain issues with workmanship, quality or services for five years after possession. Buyers must report such problems within five years, and the builder must fix them without charging extra.
