How may investors not be ‘diversifying’ despite having diversified SIPs?

Owning many mutual funds does not necessarily mean an investor has a well-diversified portfolio as different schemes may hold the same stocks, sectors or market segments, creating overlapping exposure. If funds have similar holdings or investment strategies, they may simply duplicate an investor's existing exposure. True diversification comes from combining assets with different return profiles.
