How Meta’s $18-bn settlement compares with major US settlements

Meta's up to $18 billion settlement over claims that its platforms harmed and addicted young users is among the biggest US corporate settlements. However, it is much smaller than the $206 billion tobacco settlement and the $26 billion opioid settlements. The 1998 tobacco deal involved four major cigarette companies and 46 states over smoking-related healthcare costs.
