How much gold can you legally keep at home in India?

India has no fixed legal limit on keeping gold at home. During tax scrutiny, gold up to 500 grams for married women, 250 grams for unmarried women, and 100 grams for men is protected even without documents. Ownership is legal if the source can be explained, and storage itself is not taxed.
