The First Pay Commission in 1946-47 set the minimum and maximum salaries of government employees at ₹55 and ₹2,000, respectively. They increased to ₹80 and ₹3,000 in Second Commission, to ₹196 and ₹3,500 in Third Commission and to ₹750 and ₹8,000 in Fourth Commission. As of the Seventh Pay Commission, the minimum and maximum salaries stand at ₹18,000 and ₹2,25,000.
