How much loan are Indian students taking to study abroad?

Median loan amount sought by Indian students for overseas education across major destinations surged 50-100% over the last four years, Moneycontrol reported, citing GyanDhan analysis. Average borrowing to study in the US jumped from ₹35 lakh in 2022 to ₹66 lakh in 2026. Borrowings for Australia doubled to ₹50 lakh, while loan amounts for the UK rose to ₹35 lakh.
