Hundreds line up to volunteer for civil defence in Chandigarh

Hundreds of young men and women gathered across Chandigarh on Saturday in response to a local call for civil defence volunteers amid India-Pakistan tensions. "We plan to teach [volunteers] civil defence rules, basic police procedures, relief and rehabilitation work, and methods for raising awareness among residents," DC Nishant Yadav said. Volunteers would be selected after training, he added.
