Hundreds of blue 'By-the-wind sailors' wash ashore on UK beaches

Hundreds of vivid blue Velella velella, or by-the-wind sailors, have washed ashore on England's St Bees beach in Cumbria, creating a stunning spectacle. Though they resemble jellyfish, experts say they are colonial hydrozoans made of tiny organisms. The creatures have a mild sting, even after washing ashore, and visitors are advised not to touch them.
