In a first, Harvard scientists have succeeded in creating metallic hydrogen by squeezing a liquid hydrogen sample using two diamonds. The feat was achieved by subjecting the sample to pressures above those existing in the core of the Earth. The material is theorised to have a wide range of applications, spanning from room-temperature superconductors to powerful rocket propellant.
