IIT Guwahati develops low-cost catalyst to make hydrogen from water

IIT Guwahati researchers developed a low-cost catalyst to produce hydrogen from water using easily available nickel salt. They added that 88% of electrical energy supplied was used to split water, minimising energy wastage. Around 95% of hydrogen generated from coal and gas releases greenhouse gases, while hydrogen produced from water offers a cleaner alternative but requires efficient catalysts.
