IIT Madras develops device to heat cancer cells to 44°C

Engineers at IIT Madras have developed a microwave applicator for thermal cancer therapy that maintains temperatures of 40–44°C deep within target tissues for an hour while protecting the skin from burns. The device combines cooling fins and a water cushion to regulate heat delivery, potentially helping target malignant cells while limiting damage to surrounding healthy tissue.
