IMD launches system capable of forecasting rainfall in 1-km area

The IMD has launched an AI-powered rainfall forecasting system capable of predicting rainfall within a 1-km area up to 10 days in advance. Developed jointly by IMD, IITM Pune and NCMRWF, the model is currently being tested in Uttar Pradesh before a wider rollout. IMD launched another AI-based forecasting system to provide district-level monsoon and rainfall predictions across 16 states.
