IMF appoints Silvana Tenreyro as chief economist, research head

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Tuesday appointed Silvana Tenreyro as its new Economic Counsellor and Director of the Research Department. She will replace Pierre-Olivier Gourinchas, who has returned to academia. Tenreyro currently serves as a professor at the London School of Economics and served as an external member of the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee until 2023.
