Import of defence equipment exempted from basic customs duty: FM

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday announced in the Budget speech that the import on defence equipment that are not manufactured in India has been exempted from basic customs duty. She said, "Defence has an immediate requirement of modernisation and upgradation." Sitharaman also said that the Indian economy will grow to become a $3 trillion economy in the current year.
