India, which allowed imports of sugar for 1st time in 10 yrs, is its 2nd-biggest producer

India has allowed duty-free imports of up to 10 lakh metric tonnes of raw sugar till October 31, for first time in a decade. India is the second largest producer of sugar in the world. Only companies with in-house refining capacity will be eligible to import sugar, the government said, adding that mills and refiners can apply between August 21-28.
