India's fast breeder reactor in Kalpakkam attains criticality, PM Modi calls it decisive step

India advanced the second stage of its civil nuclear programme, PM Narendra Modi said. "The indigenously designed and built Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor at Kalpakkam has attained criticality," he said, explaining the advanced reactor can produce more fuel than it consumes. "It's a decisive step towards harnessing our vast thorium reserves in the third stage of the programme," he said.
