India backs ruling rejecting China's claims in South China Sea

India on Tuesday backed freedom of navigation and overflight and a peaceful resolution of disputes in the South China Sea, reiterating that maritime disputes should be settled in accordance with international law. The MEA mentioned the 2016 Arbitral Tribunal ruling, which rejects China's expanded maritime claims, calling it a significant milestone and the basis for peacefully resolving disputes.
