India becomes 1st nation to make full list of 1 lakh fauna species
India has become the first country to compile a comprehensive checklist of its entire fauna, totaling 1,04,561 species. Launched by Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav, the 'Fauna of India Checklist Portal' was unveiled on the 109th Foundation Day of the Zoological Survey of India. The list includes 121 checklists across 36 phyla, highlighting endemic, threatened, and scheduled species.
