India calls for 25-year transition period in WTO's fisheries pact

India has called for a 25-year transition period for developing countries under the second phase of the WTO fisheries subsidies pact during the 14th ministerial conference. The Indian delegation also argued for stronger disciplines on industrial fishing fleets in distant waters. Union Minister Piyush Goyal highlighted the challenge of overfishing due to subsidised industrial fleets.
