India removes excise duty on petrol blended with 22%-30% ethanol

The Centre on Wednesday removed excise duty on petrol containing 22%, 25%, 27% and 30% ethanol, a government notification read. The Bureau of Indian Standards in May set technical standards, including fuel quality, sulphur content and octane ratings, for these four blends. India reached 20% ethanol blending in petrol in 2025, five years before its original target of 2030.
