India discovers first-ever raft spider in Western Ghats

A new raft spider, Dolomedes indicus, was discovered in Kerala's Western Ghats, the first of its genus in India. This semi-aquatic hunter detects prey via water vibrations and can submerge for 90 minutes. Since it thrives only in pristine streams, it is a vital indicator species for monitoring fragile freshwater ecosystems.
