India drops 10 places in Democracy Index, retains 'flawed democracy' status
India dropped 10 places in the latest Democracy Index released by Economist Intelligence Unit, and retained its status as a "flawed democracy". India ranked 51 out of 165 independent states and two territories. According to the index, India's overall score fell from 7.23 out of 10 in 2018 to 6.90 in 2019, mainly due to an "erosion of civil liberties".
