India faces 1,492 deaths due to extreme weather

In the 2024 monsoon season, India saw 1,492 deaths due to extreme weather, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Floods and rain-related incidents claimed 895 lives, while thunderstorms and lightning strikes resulted in 597 fatalities. Kerala recorded the highest death toll with 397 due to landslides and floods in Wayanad.
