India finished 3rd, 2nd, 1st in first 3 Hockey World Cups

India won their first-ever men's Hockey World Cup on March 15, 1975, after finishing third and second in the first two World Cups respectively. India defeated arch-rivals Pakistan 2-1 in the final of the third edition to clinch their only Hockey World Cup title till date. Notably, Indian hockey team is the most successful team in Olympics with eight golds.
