India accounts for one in three child brides worldwide, with one in five young women married before 18. Though prevalence dropped from 50% in 1996 to 20% now, experts warn national averages mask stark regional gaps. UP, Bihar, West Bengal, Maharashtra, and MP account for over half of all child marriages. The 2030 elimination target remains challenging.
