India imposes 3-year tariff on select steel items to curb cheap Chinese imports

India has imposed a three-year tariff, known as a safeguard duty, of between 11% and 12% on select steel products, in a move targeting a surge in cheap imports from China. As per the gazette notification, this will be imposed on China, Vietnam, and Nepal, however, certain developing nations will be exempted. Earlier in April, India imposed a temporary duty.
