India imposes 50% export duty on molasses from January 18

Finance Ministry has imposed a 50% export duty on molasses resulting from extraction or refining of sugar from January 18 onwards, according to a gazette notification. The move is likely aimed at ensuring domestic availability of molasses to meet ethanol production targets. The existing import duty on crude and refined edible oils has been extended for one more year.
